"Eurasian Tango" was first commissioned by Aki Takahashi in 1998 as a piano piece. In 1997, Ayuo was working on making new music from the melodies in the oldest music manuscript preserved in Japan from the 6th century. The manuscript contained songs written in an ancient tabulature for the string instrument biwa and vocals. The melodies can be recognized by checking the tuning of the instrument, and the rhythm of the lyrics. Most of the songs were originally from Central Asia, the region now inhabitted by Kazakhs, Uigurs, Turkish and Hans. This style of music became the basis for GAGAKU, the court music in Japan. Ayuo began a personal research into this kind of music in order to learn about the link between traditional music in Japan and the Near East. This series of music entitled "Eurasian Tango" is an original composition by Ayuo, based from what he learned from his research. Tango rhythms tend to be somewhat similar to the rhythms used in traditional Greek Rembetika, and this similarity has also influenced these pieces.
